Toolbox

The Impact Monitor 2 Toolbox builds on and improves the already established reference from its predecessor project, Impact Monitor. Capitalizing on toolboxes from TEAM_Play and Technology Evaluator in Clean Sky 2, this already established reference Toolbox is a coherent and holistic approach for the complete cycle to perform technology and policy assessments of the impact of European aviation R&I. It rests on and advances the approach used in EC’s Better Regulation.

In Impact Monitor 2, this already established reference is first of all applied to the specification of essentially three preliminary impact assessments of R&I. These assessments are performed at three different but linked assessment levels: aircraft, airport and air-transport system level.

Preliminary impact assessments

For a novel short-/medium-range (SMR) aircraft from Clean Aviation

For an operational improvement from SESAR 3

For a combination of a new aircraft configuration and an operational improvement

Framework

The digital collaborative Impact Monitor 2 Framework with Dashboard provides the technical backbone to integrate the models for an impact assessment task in a standardized and neutral manner.

Impact Monitor 2 improves and extends the framework with dashboard developed in the Impact Monitor project, by integrating and utilizing existing frameworks (e.g. from TEAM_Play, Technology Evaluator in Clean Sky 2, and AGILE4.0) and outcomes from projects like CLAIM and Visualization, Analytics & Support for Decision Making Workflow Execution DIGITAL COLLABORATIVE FRAMEWORK ClimOP for models addressing climate indicators and climate-sensitive regions, respectively.

Impact Assessment Studies

Concerns the execution of the preliminary impact assessments specified in the Toolbox, by using the Digital Collaborative Impact Monitor 2 Framework. These assessments should address aircraft technology and operations from European aviation R&I, quantify the environmental, climate and competitiveness impact, and incorporate methodological, science-based, validated, and traceable models.

Impact Monitor 2 Academy

The connection of Impact Monitor 2 activities with th education community is considered imperative. The new Academy version will enable participation and training of future engineers and researchers by connecting their thesis to the Impact Monitor 2 Activities, thus scaling up the holistic collaborative training. With the guidance and support of the project partners via dedicated training sessions and webinars, the students will focus on the development of assessment tools and models that could potentially be integrated in the framework of the project.

To ensure wide scale uptake of this initiative, the project will exploit the EASN Conference series to provide the necessary dissemination forum to the participating students to share their findings and experience gained.
